چکیده

Piezoelectric materials are defined by their ability to display a charge across surface in response mechanical strain, making them great for use sensing applications. Such applications include pressure sensors, medical devices, energy harvesting and structural health monitoring (SHM). SHM describes the process of using systematic approach identify damage engineering infrastructure. A method that uses piezoelectric wafers connected directly structure has become increasingly popular. An investigation novel pitch-catch determining instrumentation quality wafer active sensors (PWASs) used was conducted as well an into effects defects sensor bonding on response. This able verify defect-less pristinely bonded PWASs. Additionally, compared with electromechanical impedance instrumentation. Using method, it found defective resulted decreasing amplitude received transmitted signals changes frequency spectrums signals, such elimination high peaks those layer increased around 600 kHz broken PWAS. The concluded increase primary peak’s cause downward shift both secondary spectrum, while peak reduced shifting upward nearly eliminating peak.

Guided Wave Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensor Arrays For Damage Detection

The paper describes an in-situ method for damage detection using phased arrays of piezoelectric wafers active sensors (PWAS) that are permanently attached to the structure. The method uses scanning beams of guided waves that can travel at large distances with little energy loss and hence permit the interrogation of large structural areas from a single location. The novelty of the present method...

Lamb Wave Tuning for Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensor Applications in In-situ Structural Health Monitoring

An analytical and experimental investigation of the Lamb wave mode tuning with piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) is presented. The analytical investigation assumes shear lag transfer of tractions and strains. Analytical solution using the space-wise Fourier transform is reviewed and closed form solutions are presented for the case of ideal bonding (i.e., load transfer mechanism localize...

Review of In-situ Fabrication Methods of Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensor for Sensing and Actuation Applications

Structural health monitoring (SHM) is important for reducing maintenance costs while increasing safety and reliability. Piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) used in SHM applications are able to detect structural damage using Lamb waves. PWAS are small, lightweight, unobtrusive, and inexpensive. PWAS achieve direct transduction between electric and elastic wave energies. PWAS are essential ...

Lamb Wave Dispersion Compensation in Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensor Phased-Array Applications

Lamb-wave testing for structural health monitoring is complicated by the dispersion nature of the wave modes. The dispersion effect will result in a propagated wave with longer time duration, deformed envelop shape as compared to its excitation counterpart, and hard to be interpreted. This paper first reviews the dispersion compensation and removal algorithms. Second, it compares these two meth...
